Origins

Also known as "stone painting'', the Commesso Fiorentino is one of the most refined decorative arts of the Renaissance.

Each piece begins with the selection of hard and semi-precious stones, such as lapis lazuli, malachite, agate, and jasper which are cut and fitted together with millimetric precision to create compositions of extraordinary beauty.

Scarpelli Mosaici preserves this centuries-old tradition in its workshop in the heart of Florence.

A legacy of passion

In 1972 the master Renzo Scarpelli managed to open his own company in a small studio on the outskirts of Florence where he began creating his mosaics and selling them successfully. His wife Gabriella supported him throughout his life and career choices. In 1992 his son Leonardo graduated from the Art Institute of Florence and officially entered the family business and in 1999 Catia, the eldest daughter, started managing the business, communications and company image.

In 2008 the Scarpelli family opened a new workshop and gallery in a central location in Florence where lovers of beauty, international buyers, and tourists from all over the world have the opportunity to see up close the expert and patient hands of the artists who create unique works of art. The company can count on the collaboration of Pier Paolo, Filippo and Michele in the laboratory, as well as Mayumi, Viola and Luna in the gallery and commercial management.

Today Leonardo and Catia carry on the founder's legacy and the doors of the gallery are open to all who wish to discover the secrets of the art of the Commesso Fiorentino, a common heritage that should be preserved over the centuries as a great treasure.
